ABOUT OUR CSA

The 2025 Summer CSA share, or Community Supported Agriculture share, runs from June through September right here at the farm. The Dancing Harvest CSA is meant to cultivate stronger connections between you, your farm, and your fellow veggie eaters! We are thrilled to welcome you to the farm every week to pick out your vegetables, herbs, and flowers. We are always here and happy to chat food, farming, and more.

In addition to your vegetables, you will also receive a weekly note from us. We will tell you what was harvested for the week, share recipes we love, some produce storage tips, and a few reflections from the field. Starting in July, you are encouraged to pick your own flowers and herbs from the front garden during your weekly farm visits.

When you purchase a CSA share, you are supporting the farm at the beginning of the year when all the seeds and equipment are bought, and in turn enjoy a share of the farm’s bounty throughout the harvest season. We are committed to being a part of the vibrant and resilient local food shed here, and want you to be a part of it with us!

CSA Details & FAQs

  • As we harvest and eat our way through the seasons, our vegetables will reflect subtle and obvious changes from June to September. We aim to include a variety of cooking and cut greens, root vegetables, alliums, and fruiting crops every week. For an extensive list of our seasonal crop variety, read our harvest calendar here.

Our flowers become available in July and we encourage you to pick-your-own bouquets in the front garden from then until September. We will grow zinnias, cosmos, sunflowers, and a few other exciting types. In the fall, we will harvest dahlias for you to purchase as an add-on to your share.

  • Medium shares include 7-8 vegetable items a week whereas Full shares include 11-12 vegetable items. Both share sizes include pick-your-own flowers and herbs beginning in July.

When deciding which size is best for you, we recommend thinking about how many people the CSA share will feed, and how often they eat or cook with vegetables:

Medium shares are designed for 1-2 people who prepare some of their meals at home. Medium shares receive less volume than Full shares, but will choose from the same produce options as Full shares.

Full shares are ideal for 2+ people who prepare the majority of their meals at home and/or rely on a plant-based menu. Full shares are larger in volume and will have priority on vegetables just coming in (first couple weeks of tomatoes) or that are limited in the case of a crop failure.

We have designed these share sizes thanks to CSA Member input over the last two years. Let us know if we can help you think through your CSA size, we are happy to chat!

  • We are thrilled to host you at the farm in South Portland every week for on-farm pickups! CSA pickup times will be Mondays 2pm, Wednesdays 2-6pm, (based on demand, we will add Fridays 2-6pm). There is parking available at the farm, and we are accessible to walkers and bicyclers as well. We are located a few steps from the 24B bus stop on Highland Ave and a five minute walk from the 24A bus stop on Broadway at Evans St. More bus route details here.

  • Every Saturday morning during the CSA program, you will be sent a newsletter that includes the week’s harvest. On your chosen CSA pickup day (you choose at checkout, and can email me to make changes) you will select from a market-style display exactly what vegetables you want to take home. Beginning in July, you will also be able to pick-your-own flowers and some herbs from the front garden. Medium shares can choose 7-8 "items" and Full shares choose 11-12. Some weeks there might be a limit like, "Please only take one head of lettuce" right when they are starting to size up, but otherwise if you want 3 of your 9 items to be 3 heads of lettuce that's fine! "Items" = one bunch of carrots, one bag of salad greens, one pint of cherry tomatoes, etc.

ANother perk of the CSA is the ability to purchase add-ons. We are working hard to bring you a selection of products from peer farmers and food producers like ethically-raised meats, eggs, honey, and more.

  • Medium shares = $575 for 7-8 veggie items + pick-your-own flowers and herbs starting in July. This comes to an average value of $35.90/week.

Full shares = $750 for 11-12 items + pick-your-own flowers and herbs starting in July. This comes to an average of $46.80/week

  • We grow following all organic practices and go beyond the base requirements to grow as ecologically and ethically as we can. We are not yet certified- but hopefully we will have big news come 2025!

  • If you cannot pick up your share, feel free to have a friend or neighbor or coworker pick up for you! If you will not have anyone pick up for you, please let us know so we can donate your share to the Gleaners through the Cumberland County Food Security Council.

  • Yes! We will offer a Fall CSA running from October - November. SIgn-ups will open in July.

  • The CSA through Dancing Harvest Farm wildly exceeded my expectations! The produce was thoughtfully curated, incredibly fresh and delicious. I enjoyed the variety, as well as the weekly emails informing us of what to expect in the week's bag. Daniela provided recipe links - I tried many and they were all delicious. I also enjoyed exposure to new veggies, and finding new dishes that are now a part of my dinner rotation. The pickup options were very convenient, as well. There were a couple of times when I was away during the scheduled pickup time, and Daniela was so kind to provide flexibility. The CSA has been the highlight of my week, and I cannot wait to sign up again next year!

  • We have loved DHF! It was our first time doing a farm share and we are very happy with our choice. Delicious food, fun recipes, and a wonderful farmer! Would definitely recommend!

  • Daniela's Dancing Harvest is fabulous! 20 weeks of fabulous fresh produce. Her enthusiasm is infectious! Her " pre- delivery" emails helped me so much with meal planning and trying new healthy foods. As a newbie, I especially appreciated Daniellas recipes and hints for using various veggies. ( Hello, bok choy!) I already miss my Wednesday Winthrop Center pickup. Always so beautifully chilled. I look forward to next years bounty. More mushrooms please. In the mean time, my aero garden will have to supply those fresh herbs! Sign me up for 2023 now! And leave room for my envious friends! Thank you Daniella!

  • We love Daniela's creative and fun bounty that we receive each week. Her produce is incredible, always in excellent condition and each week we get challenged with new produce that we are unfamiliar with. We really enjoy finding fun new recipes to utilize our surprise new foods and then experience tasty treats that are always delicious and expand our culinary horizons. Additionally, everything is presented in excellent condition and so well packaged, plus we love Daniela's weekly post telling us what's coming and ideas on how to use special items. We love her herbs, the tomatoes were amazing and the tomatillos are a special treat--we have found 4 new very good recipes for tomatillos. Today's challenge was Celery greens. We received the most beautiful celery with full greens and we made Celery Leaf Soup--simple and delicious. Its been an amazing year with Daniela and Dancing Harvest Farms. Can't wait until next year.

  • I have been a member of CSAs in San Francisco, CA, Austin, Texas, and now the North Shore and WOW - Dancing Harvest is just the best. Daniela's weekly emails were full of warmth in her description of the farm, the harvest, and the recommended recipes. It's clear in her writing and the finished product how much care she places in her craft. Not to mention... THE VEGGIES ARE DELICIOUS, AND ABUNDANT! Truly, the amount of money I saved on groceries during the CSA season was significant enough to budget for a nice weekend getaway! The CSA often had extra surprise goodies from neighbor farmers (mushrooms! flowers! joy!!). Honestly, the downside is that grocery store veggies do not do it for me anymore. After an incredible delivery of tomatillos, I craved more, only to buy them at the grocery store and be totally disappointed! This also happened with scallions and cilantro. What will I do this winter without Dancing Harvest?! Dream about next season...
